Madison Grant's *Conquest of the Continent* is not a rip-roaring romp about Nordics dominating North America, which the title might lead you to believe. Grant viewed the settling of America as a tragedy, and a triumph. It led to untold devastations of wilderness and animal life.

Nothing could be more perverse than desiring "America X 3." In this endless, suburban hellscape, built on the bones of countless lost species and the rumble of wilderness, America's Last Man would become three times as obese and three times as mentally ill as he is presently.
Super-Sized America bringing about the end of human life on this planet might, in fact, be its only saving grace.
