Today is #BlackWomensEqualPayDay, and we have a few things we need to say, namely ... GET OUT YOUR FUCKING CHECKBOOKS AND GO TO WORK, COMPANIES!
No more “We’re looking into how we can be more diverse!” or “We’re trying to find candidates and doing some searches!” or “We’re gonna have a panel discussion on this!” NOPE NOPE NOPE. Start offering HIGH AF SALARIES to Black women. #BlackWomensEqualPayDay
ESPECIALLY if you are running a reproductive rights organization. Black women have been Doing The Work in the reproductive freedom fight for CENTURIES! Pay them! #BlackWomensEqualPay
Black women are midwives and doulas, they run funds, give practical support, own independent clinics (@DesertStarFP). They foster storytelling initiatives (@wetestify, @RBraceySherman). They conduct research to build a more just future (@mclemoremr). newsweek.com/abortion-15-ye…
Here’s an example from literally just two seconds ago: Black women led the charge against Georgia’s racist anti-abortion bill! @SisterSong, @monicarsimpson, @superkwa and hundreds of Georgia activists DID THE DAMN THING and continue to fight. time.com/5866714/georgi…
But again, this is not just about calling out specific (amazing) people, this is about $$$ bills.
Give Black women money. They deserve it. No more empty promises. Just cold hard cash. #BlackWomensEqualPayDay
