A little bit of information about #OnlyFans that I just learned about myself: Founded by a man (no surprise, let's be honest), women on the site are reporting harassment from "Fans" and being pushed to take more and more extreme images of themselves. thetimes.co.uk/article/onlyfa…
I understand the appeal when compared to other parts of the sex trade: Just like camming you can do it from your home with just your phone. I guess you can not show you're face if you don't want to. But it's still a market place and the market doesn't care about people.
There are 50 million consumers using #OnlyFans and 700,000 women and men taking nude pictures for extra cash. That is still a heck of a competition. And how do you get ahead if you're not already known? Do risky stuff. Stuff that might make you feel degraded. Same as regular porn
A journalist on #OnlyFans: "A number of creators tell me that they received endless requests to make pornographic content. And the more you need the money, the less power you have." Thank fuck for this critical thinking. The "fans" have the power and the ones to hold accountable.
For some #OnlyFans is a slippery slope into regular pornography or prostitution. Many people in the sex industry have described how one's boundaries slip with time (as they do in abusive relationships) - worst case scenario you feel this is all your good for and all you have.
Another thing I wondered is if #OnlyFans verifies accounts. If so is this vetting any better than let's say... Pornhub's? Because if there is no vetting process or tbh even if there is - a pimp can just make a woman post on there. The "fans" can never know what's really going on.
Important part in the article: #OnlyFans is the logical conclusion of objectification and misogyny online - the Instagram algorithm favours semi nude imagery, too, because it gets so many clicks. Now we're just not pretending anymore that every medium we use fluidly turns to porn
Again: I reject any shaming of people posting on apps like #OnlyFans. I've heard the hatred of online (nude) models a million times and it's just pushing women to objectify then punishing them - its tiring. I'm not down for it. I want attention on the consumers of objectification
I want attention less on what makes women post on #OnlyFans (it's this shit economy, you misogynists) and on guys like this: This is the owner of the app living in his big "pimp" mansion while the women he takes 20% off compete often at their own peril.
Using #OnlyFans makes its male owner rich - it's not "supporting sex workers". If you want to support people in the industry you give them your money without asking anything in return. You agitate for free services where they don't need to show IDs. Ideally u decriminalise them.
This pimp-pornographer & son of a banker who has been profiting off of other people in regular & BDSM porn for years is being smart keeping his face largely out of the public so that we all argue about the women. But I want you to see his pimp face everytime you hear of #OnlyFans
I really recommend reading the article. ☝🏻 It's a comprehensive breakdown of why #OnlyFans appeals to women strapped for cash & seems safer and more convenient, but really is full of traps and men being pushy, abusive and taking their cut just like any other part of the sex trade
And no decrim for the pimps and johns - just so we're clear. Never in my life will you hear me calling for sympathy for these cretins: dieunsichtbarenmaenner.wordpress.com/menu/
