The education system upholds and reproduces the hierarchies of race and class under the fake narrative of progressive equality.
You’re not supposed to point to the quite parts and say them out loud.
Everyone has a place here. Doe normaal, is to know that place and not to challenge it. Challenging it leads to you being a problem as you hold up a mirror to the lies told about how progressive, just and equal it all is.
Occasionally one or two people who appear to challenge this rigid system of classification will be held up as proof of how progressive and equal NL is for all. These folks are invariably the ‘good immigrant’ or the ‘unthreatening other’ happy to uphold rather than challenge.
Those that do excel in spite of all this are truly amazing & I cannot begin to imagine the struggles that they‘ve endured. I‘ve been privileged to teach some & call them colleagues. The necessary work of decolonising the university can’t be divorced from education reform.
