4 weeks ago, I submitted a records request w/ LA County asking for communications amongst the elected Board of Supervisors regarding the "Reimagining LA County" measure they're putting on the ballot. They've now notified me they won't be turning ANY of those communications over.
LA County's lawyers state that "people's right of access is not absolute", that these communications are privileged via "deliberative process", and that "the public interest in withholding records outweighs the interest in disclosure."
I responded to LA County with the following email, and never received a response. I find this to be a startling lack of transparency w/ the County apparently dictating what they feel is in the public’s interest. I have asked our corporate attorney for a legal opinion on this.
