In May 1904, the Alake of Egba, Oba Gbadebo I, (grandfather of the current Alake) became the first Nigerian monarch to visit England. It was a State visit at the invitation of King Edward VII.

He had spent 20 days travelling there by Sea. He stayed at Buckingham Palace and worshipped at Westminster Abbey during his trip. He was presented with a huge Holy Bible by his host, Edward VII. (Below)
