Rant: Although I’m super happy to be back on campus and learn better in a face to face classroom setting, I must say I feel EXTREMELY uncomfortable going back to in person classes so soon (especially, after last semester). 1/
I have such mixed feelings being a new grad student and being in a class with 30+ students (only one of my classes). On one hand I feel overjoyed at the fact that I’m taking classes that I’m 1)truly excited for and 2) in a setting that isn’t depressing (visually) 2/
On the other hand, have extreme anxiety when it comes to seeing students (mostly undergrads) not wearing masks, partying, and having no true concern about the well-being of themselves and others. 3/
And honestly, I don’t blame them. How do you expect undergrads to adhere to social distancing requirements when you put them in a situation that requires them to consistently think about this, all while trying to resume “normal” student life??? 4/
Taking the precautions of mask wearing and socially distancing is IMO way more mentally and physically exhausting than it would be to just go online for the remainder of the semester. 5/
I get that’s unfair to certain students who just moved cross country and other circumstances, but overall this is going to be hard on us ALL. However, if we don’t want this to go on longer than necessary then making the difficult decisions that will help in the long run is vital.
Also, this rant is not an invitation for debate, advice, etc. Feel more than free to comment but if I don’t respond don’t take it personally or as a reflection of my opposition.
Or agreement 😂
