Rav Zalman Nechemiah Goldberg has passed away.
The product of a bygone era, he bridged (or bestrode?) the Haredi-Dati Leumi divide in Israel, respected on all sides.
An Av Beis Din and Rosh Kollel for Dayyanus, member of the great rabbinic court, Rosh Yeshiva at both Machon Lev and Sadigora. He delivered regular Shiurim at a bevy of institutions, and was the grantor of private Semicha to so many (showing a democratic streak).
A great Talmid Chacham and Posek who also had impeccable Middos and put on no airs, just like his father-in-law, Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach.
The rare leading halakhist who was simultaneously willing to go out on a limb for Pesakim he saw as correct (including Agunah issues, from the RCA prenup to 9/11 to Tzfat) and also was universally taken seriously when he did.
A Talmid Chacham who published numerous articles and Sefarim, including ground-breaking and leading positions on medical ethics, technology, and more.
Yehi Zichro Baruch.
