If not already discussed, risk capital should be part of the equation when evaluating whether or not college (& MS/HS) sports should occur, & how. All campuses & their communities have a limited amount of risk capital available w/ respect to... 1/

Any activity a campus or community chooses to spend their risk capital on results in less available to spend on other activities. 3/

Contact sports have the potential to chip away at this risk capital more than other activities. For smaller/mid-size communities w/ larger universities &/or districts, it can be more than just a "chip". The end result could negatively impact the ability to have some...4/

And if campus or community spread rates are high to begin w/, you're starting out w/ less available risk capital. And this is all occurring w/out a national, coordinated...5/

response to the pandemic, greatly limiting our ability to effectively & consistently limit the risk associated w/ various individual activities, like athletics or in-person education.

Having said all that, I also recognize the benefits of athletics to our individual...6/

physical/mental health, our collective psyche, & the life lessons provided. And for many, this is also their ticket to higher education & economic security. These are not easy choices, but lacking a national, coordinated response, we've made it harder than it should be. 7/
