Welcome to night 4 & 5 of our Legislative Focus week over LGBTQ+ issues. Tonight we will cover expanding statewide Transgender healthcare protections and decriminalizing HIV & sex work in Missouri.
Please join in and follow along! 🏳️🌈
Over 1.1 million LGBTQ+ Americans rely on Medicaid for vital healthcare, so expanding Medicaid in Missouri was such a vital step for many LGBTQ+ Missourians.
However, in Missouri, there are still restrictions on gender affirming care for Medicaid recipients, that we must work hard to remove.
Passing MONA finally would also go towards strengthening public accommodations for LGBTQ+ Missourians.
@EmpowerMissouri does incredible work covering decriminalizing HIV. There’s a coalition of organizations in Missouri that are analyzing what sex decriminalization would look like.
This work would go to benefit our Transgender community, especially our Trans-women of color, who are often the ones most systematically impacted by the criminalization of this form of labor.
The ACLU has also launched a project to begin researching sex decriminalization data.
I look forward to supporting these coalitions and projects, as well as other measures in supporting and protecting our LGBTQ+ community.
