I'll be heading towards downtown #EugeneOregon soon for the @DailyEmerald to cover this March in Solidarity with the DC Commitment Rally starting at the federal courthouse at 5 p.m.
I'm here now.
There's a larger Bicycle Safety Crew than usual, a wall of moms, and a PA system being set up on the steps of the federal courthouse.
A speaker — and ASL interpreter — just got up to the podium. Theyre thanking those that donated their time and resources and this will be starting soon.
There's between 150 and 200 people here it looks like.
Speaker says "were just a group of community members who wanted to see this happen."
The crowd is impressive for an event pulled together at what seems like the last minute
An indigenous prayer prior to marching is happening now
Breaking news: Portland's own Caesar "The No Drama" Llama has made an appearance.
EPD is blocking off Mill St.
Easily 300-400 people here.
Someone screams to an officer "quit your job you fucking pig"
Full crowd shot for y'all
Singin' the blues
One counter-protester's yells have been drowned out
Wall of moms blocking a man from speaking to the crowd. He's pretty mad.
He says "I am the product, I am Black, white and Hispanic"
Wall of moms blocks him again and a member of the press is getting him away for an interview.
Now speaking about #ChadwickBoseman whom is just reported to have passed away for colon cancer at age 43.
A few women have just joined the march from their home to much applause.
Still marching. No idea where the crowd is headed.
More folx are joining the crowd which has definitely increased the volume on "march with us!"
I haven't been in the back of the crowd until now for a few seconds.
EPD is closing out the tail end if the march
More people just joined in. I cant say I've seen this many "come out of their homes and into the streets" as i have tonight
Elle (sp?), the organizer is celebrating a birthday today
Wall of moms in between the crowd and Elk Horn Brewery.
Blocking the intersection. People in cars are not happy.
We are pretty much back at the courthouse.
The march is over.
