Not many franchises have had this long breather between installments. There’s THE GODFATHER, INDIANA JONES and BILL & TED. #ACMIwatches

The writing team, and of course the beloved duo Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, reunite for this one, helmed by Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest).
The long-time buddies announced in March last year that the threequel was really happening. #ACMIwatches

In the new film, Bill and Ted – yet to write the song that saves the universe – are now world-weary, middle-aged dads playing at Taco Tuesdays. Tonight however, we travel back to a time when they were but babes. #ACMIwatches

Originally there was a big choreographed opening number – with much aggressive air guitar – that was cut. (Rehearsals were at Stevie Nicks’ house!?! 🤩) At least we have a certain musical moment coming up at 41:30 to look forward to. #ACMIwatches

However, as a homage to Carlin, Rufus does appear in FTM as a hologram, created with some of the footage we’ll see tonight. #ACMIwatches

Keanu Reeves was already a fan – he remembers going to the library as a kid to listen to George Carlin comedy albums. The three of them would talk politics together off camera. #ACMIwatches

Almost as good as Winter’s fashion in THE LOST BOYS (1987) – pity the mullet had to go. #ACMIwatches

TV too: FREAKS AND GEEKS, MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE, THE SOPRANOS – even the first THE SIMS game. #ACMIwatches

They originally wanted to cast ZZ Top. #ACMIwatches

It was almost Bill & Ted & Bob, but the dude playing Bob wasn’t as into it, so trio became duo 👬 #ACMIwatches

Director Stephen Herek has said his thought after reading the script was “Wow, this is either going to be a huge hit or a huge flop.” #ACMIwatches

The four of them hatched the idea for FACE THE MUSIC together while “goofing off” one night. #ACMIwatches

Herek would regularly direct Alex and Keanu with, “I need more Labrador retriever”. #ACMIwatches

Maybe sometimes just the gesture says all it needs to say. 🤷‍♀️

The cast hated getting in the booth though. It was a rickety hydraulic contraption and once they had to stuff 10+ characters in there the novelty wore off quick. #ACMIwatches

Impressive – considering its production company, De Laurentiis Entertainment Group (MANHUNTER, EVIL DEAD II), went bankrupt and this excellent adventure nearly wasn’t released at all. #ACMIwatches

Five films *is* pretty bodacious.

A few hundred actors auditioned for the title roles, but once Keanu’s lovable goofiness won the creators over, they just had to find him the right partner. Pauly Shore, Sean Penn and River Phoenix were also in the mix. #ACMIwatches

You can see Reeves and Winter’s rapport in this audition footage. They both bring a total sincerity to the characters without taking themselves too seriously. #ACMIwatches

Reeves says that B&T are too naïve to be stoners like Penn’s character in FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH (1982). “I’m playing, like, a child of the universe. A babe in the woods.” #ACMIwatches

These *were* really heavy suits of armour. Not prop suits. And this “lightsaber” fight is a moment of improvised goofing that stayed in. #ACMIwatches

It must be said that this is highly irresponsible time travel. The butterfly effect of “bagging” historical figures is 🤯.
An earlier plot had our dudes bumbling around the past causing historical catastrophes, which *is* mighty feasible. #ACMIwatches

It was partially changed due to similarities to Terry Gilliam’s TIME BANDITS (1981). Yup, Bill & Ted were set to cause the sinking of the Titanic. #ACMIwatches

Not silly, this is the moment we’ve been waiting for! #ACMIwatches

It’s up there with this moment from 1985’s THE BREAKFAST CLUB #ACMIwatches

These Ziggy Pig waiters are played by writers Solomon and Matheson. They appear in all three movies playing characters billed as “stupid”.#ACMIwatches

Some of their time-travel scavenger hunt was shot in Europe. This music room, the square where they just lassoed "Frood-dude", the castle and that building where Socrates was playing with sand were all captured during 10 days of filming in Rome. #ACMIwatches

Gonna be a major buzzkill here: No surprise, this film is far from historically accurate. Eg: Beethoven playing a Steinway piano in this scene set 40 years before it was invented. #ACMIwatches

Bill and Ted really use their time-travel to full advantage to help themselves out towards the end here, what with key stealing, jail breaks and such. The writers have suggested that it's another set of Bill & Teds doing the lighting for their imminent stage show. #ACMIwatches

The history report scene originally shot lacked all of this scale and pizzazz. Set in the classroom and delivered to a small audience, it fell flat, so they turned it into this history extravaganza. 🙌 #ACMIwatches

And then Bill & Ted went to the prom with their princesses. It’s bogus that these outfits didn’t make the final cut. #ACMIwatches

Glaring Oedipal complex in BACK TO THE FUTURE too, just saying #ACMIwatches

Spawning an animated and live-action TV series; a videogame for Commodore 64, Amiga and MS-DOS platforms; and even a cereal, B&T has quite the legacy. Plus it launched Keanu into stardom, without which we would not have a whole internet full of wholesome memes. #ACMIwatches

Alex Winter became a director and documentary filmmaker whose films include DOWNLOADED (2013), THE PANAMA PAPERS (2018, from @humanrightsfest 2019), SHOWBIZ KIDS (2020) and the upcoming ZAPPA. #ACMIwatches

Where EXCELLENT ADVENTURE featured no notable female characters (Joan only had a few lines in French, and don’t get us started on the princesses) BILL AND TED FACE THE MUSIC introduces the dudes’ daughters Billie (Brigette Lundy-Paine) & Thea (Aussie Samara Weaving) #ACMIwatches
