I want to pass on a very important Hebraic hermeneutical principle that will help you in understanding Scripture. Learn to think with two hands! This principle is all over the OT and the NT. The Apostles thought in these terms, and Christ taught in these terms. Very helpful IMO.

Example: As humans with a finite capacity to understand, certain things in life seem inconsistent, but they're not--they're just beyond us. So thinking with two hands is holding both ideas, each in a different hand. So for example, the Bible uncompromisingly teaches salvation is

2/ the result of monergistic election in eternity past. Yet, it also teaches that you must believe and you are responsible for your unbelief. To our tiny brains, these ideas are in opposition, but the Bible affirms both are true. So you are to think with both hands. A Western,

3/ Greek mind tries to find a way to resolve the tension. Jewish thinking embraces it and understands that God, in His omnipotence, holds everything together unto His glory. If you asked a 1st century Jewish believer, "Does God choose us, or do we ourselves place our faith upon

4/ Him?" he would answer, "Yes!" Hopefully that makes sense. In short, there are no biblical inconsistencies. But there are some teachings that we are asked to hold in two hands.
