Chess Not Checkers: Ahead of potential player demonstrations this season, the New York @Giants launched #TogetherBlue, announcing they are funding the New York City Police Foundation and other NYPD initiatives as part of the team’s #InspireChange effort.📲:giants.com/news/new-york-…

The New York Giants say the #TogetherBlue “campaign extends into the community as part of the Giants' commitment to pursue sustained change, specifically in areas of social justice.“

It’s unclear how much money the Giants will be donating to the NYPD, but the #TogetherBlue campaign “will continue throughout the season.”

The CEO of the New York City Police Foundation, Susan Birnbaum, once explained how every dollar they take in goes directly to the NYPD.

The #InspireChange initiative was launched last year as a collaboration between the NFL and Jay-Z as an attempt by the league to get players to stop protesting police brutality during the national anthem.

Someone will have to explain how funding the NYPD’s public relations efforts is an “actionable item,” a logical progression "past kneeling,” when that same police force routinely brutalizes and rallies to protect their own from any accountability.

New York Giants coach Joe Judge says the players selected the social justice topics, but it’s the Giants organization itself that selected the groups to fund. Those groups include funding the NYPD, which already has a $88.9 billion budget.

Is this how this works?

Management: We have social justice funds, pick a topic.

Athletes: We want to address police brutality.

Management: Great, you must mean police and community relations. We’re partnering you with the NYPD. Go #InspireChange!
