Hello from Winston-Salem, NC where hundreds await @realDonaldTrump at an outdoor rally. Attendees have their temperature checked as they arrive, & signs encourage mask-wearing. I’d say ~10% are wearing masks. No distancing to speak of. Outdoor events in NC are capped at 50 people
NC just moved to phase 2.5 of their reopening last week, which includes the 50 person max for any gathering. I looked to see if there was an exception for political events, but couldn’t find one published by @ncdhhs
Unlike with a similar rally in Pennsylvania last week, North Carolina’s COVID positivity rate remains problematic enough that several other states (including NY & DC) require visitors from NC to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival.
“We decided to call all our rallies ‘Peaceful Protests’,” @realDonaldTrump says, describing how he gets around capacity limits at his events. There are campaign-produced signs here which say the same.
“I really believe these crowds are bigger than they were four years ago,” @realDonaldTrump says, after making fun of Biden for hosting small events. He says he was told there are 15,000 people here.
(There are probably a few thousand, but not near that many imho)
