Serious, no-strings-attached offer: Are you a low-income parent, or do you know a low-income parent, who is worried his or her kids are falling behind in school because of the pandemic shutdowns? (Or for any other reason?)
I'd like to spend about three hours of the week--time that I now spend doom-scrolling--doing something useful. So I'd like to tutor your kids. For free. In any subject, up to high-school level, and in most subjects at the high-school level:
There are a few I probably can't handle--foreign languages that I don't speak, for example.
But I can teach math (except trig; I never really got the hang of it); first-year biology and physics; and possibly first-year chemistry, so long as your kid isn't way smarter than me:
I'd be learning that as we go along. But I bet I can,
I can teach US history; ancient, medieval, and modern history; civics; English--all levels, no impediment too big or small; French; and literature of any kind.
I can also teach religions of the world; drama; public speaking; poetry and fiction (reading and writing alike); art history; psychology; geography; and economics. I can't teach music, alas.
But I can teach your kids how to read, how to write, and how to speak:
If you fear your kid is at a disadvantage because you can't afford expensive tutors, I'd like to solve that problem for you. I figure I can spare three hours a week, easily, just by cutting down on my Twitter habit.
What's in it for me? Just the feeling of being useful.
What's in it for you? Three hours in which your kid isn't in trouble, isn't watching Netflix, isn't complaining she's bored--and next thing you know, she's on her way to Harvard.
If you or someone you know is interested, send me a message.
