Per previous thread about childhood & manhood/womanhood conversation:
I never went on a daddy-daughter "date" in my life, but I did regularly go to the junk yard w/ my dad to pull parts.
(Fwiw, I've never liked the language of "dates" w/ our kids. I understand the intention & gladly affirm the desire to spend quality time w/ them, but again, it feels like a frame of adulthood. Also, apparently, #getoffmylawn.)
Obviously, lots of great parents go on "dates" w/ their kids & make different choices about what's age appropriate & when. At same time, it's good to step back & Q what we accept as normal.
It's good to ask ourselves, why *this* language? Why *this* framing? Why is a parent/child relationship seen as foreshadowing an adult m/f dating & marriage relationship?
There are likely many answers to this Q, but one is undoubtedly that we're trained to see children as immature men & women rather than mature boys & girls.
