The European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) is NOT the EU.

It is an international treaty drafted in 1950 by the Council of Europe (absolutely NOT the EU) and the UK played the major part in drafting it. It is something for us to be proud of.

@RabHutchison 2/3

The Human Rights Act (a UK law) ties us to the European Convention on Human Rights treaty (absolutely doesn't tie us to the EU).

The European Convention on Human Rights is protected by The European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg (absolutely NOT the EU).

@RabHutchison 3/3

It was not the Human Rights Act that the UK created to adopt laws handed down by the EU. It was the European Communities Act. The European Communities Act was brought in to provide a mechanism for adopting EU laws at a national level.

Nothing to do with the Human Rights Act

@RabHutchison 3/3b

So we need to ask ourselves this... If the Human Rights Act has NOTHING to do with our relationship (or no relationship) with the EU... Then why do our Govt want to scrap it or replace it?

Here is a list of our freedoms that the (the UK's) Human Rights Act protects ->

@RabHutchison 3/3c

Article 2: Right to Life. (OUR right to life)
Article 3: Prohibition of Torture (stops US being tortured)
Article 4: Prohibition of slavery and forced labour (Means WE will never ever be slaves)
Article 5: Right to Liberty and Security. (WE must be free and secure)...

@RabHutchison 3/3d

Article 6: Right to a Fair Trial. (If WE break the law then we must have a fair trial).
Article 7: No Punishment Without Law. (Do WE want to be punished if WE do not break a law?)
Article 8: Respect For Your Private and Family Life (I don't think this needs explaining.)...

@RabHutchison 3/3e

Article 9: Freedom of Thought, Conscience and Religion (We can be FREE to believe what we want to believe)
Article 10: Freedom of Expression (We can say what we want to say as long as we don't harm others.)
Article 11: Freedom of Assembly and Association (no harm though)...

@RabHutchison 3/3f

Article 12: Right to Marry and Start a Family (no brainer eh?)
Article 14: Prohibition of Discrimination.

Article 1-Protocol 1: Protection of Property.
Art2-Prot1: Right to Education.
Art3-Prot1: Right to Free Elections

Art1-Prot13: Abolition of the Death Penalty.

@RabHutchison 3/3g

So I ask again... Why do you think the Govt want to change or scrap the UK's Human Rights Act?

OUR HUMAN RIGHTS ACT has NOTHING to do with the EU and everything to do with OUR FREEDOM.
