Ny freshmen year they stripped me naked and inspected my body for scars. Put me in a room completely alone. (I was 51/50). Some of the staff flirted with some of the kids in the ward. We weren't allowed to use the restroom without

being watched. Restrooms had open doors and no privacy. I understand the reason but when putting that into consideration with predatory staff I really don't think people understand how much sexual abuse is suffered <<inside>>

They take all your items from you like its prison when you first get there. You lose contact with the outside completely. They took my iPad nano. I would sit and dissociate and stare at the ceiling for hours.

They also pressure you and coax you into saying you're fine. Theres a lot of "are you sure* you feel that way" so you can correct yourself and they can mark down whatever narrative they are trying to come to about you. You meet with actual doctors on the ward maybe a handful of

Times. Then rest of the time its people just pressuring you into doing what you say. They also diagnosed me incorrectly and pressured me to take medications that weren't good for me. They scare your parents into consenting to the treatment

The trauma I went through in psych hospitals still sticks with me. I was a sucidal teenager with past trauma not an animal who had to be caged and stripped of my humanity

Can only imagine what we could have documented if we had phones

Our lunch room was next to the adult lunch room and a female patient would cause a scene and they'd use force to shut her up. I remember the person supervising us saying "that's gonna be all of you if you don't listen "

Reading the thread I quoted seems like all of this is pretty normal in the US 🤦‍♀️

Since people seem interested in this topic they also take away your eating utensils and you have to eat with your hands if you're suicidal bc they can't trust you with plastic forks/sporks/spoons

This seems understandable but the process to get "permission" to use the eating utensils requires you being obedient and not having any problems and moving up on this rating scale where people at the top get special privileges

They can force you to do what they say by putting you through days of dehumanizing you. Eating with your fingers no access to arts and crafts time etc. Until you finally break and start to submit to their rules and "plan" for you

In arts and crafts time you have to do fingerprinting if you're not high on the scale yet.. it made me so frustrated that I swore to myself I'd never take drawing for granted again

They also forced all of us to share our traumas with eachother and got mad at us if we didn't share. The shit I had to tell others and they shit they told me has stuck with me my entire life

My first "roommate " in the ward was only there so she could "get her drugs and go" and was gone within the day. She told me "just shut up and listen and do what they say"
