This is an extremely precarious time for our community, & we find ourselves at a cross-roads of sorts in our efforts to contain COVID19. The virus doesn’t care about all the good work we’ve done together over the last 6 months. All of that can be undone in a matter of days. (1/9)

Whether that happens is entirely up to us. A majority of people are following the rules, protecting themselves, and being considerate of others. That said, a majority simply isn’t good enough. Not during a pandemic, & especially not when we consider what’s at stake. (2/9)

We need more of us to do better. That includes a handful of students and young people, yes, but it also includes a handful of businesses, and other individuals. This is on all of us. (3/9)

As a City, we remain focused on education, but part of that education includes making sure people are fully aware of the financial penalties for not masking up, and for not respecting provincial orders when it comes to crowd sizes, indoors or outdoors, etc.. (4/9)

These fines are steep, and they apply to everybody. I would hope our collective health and well-being -- friends, family and strangers alike -- would provide ample motivation to do the right thing, and follow public health guidelines. (5/9)

But if not, aside from fines, consider this as well: the bars, restaurants, and other establishments we’re currently able to enjoy simply won’t be available for *anyone* to enjoy if we continue heading down this path. The Premier said as much today during his remarks. (6/9)

Whether that happens is something we as a community – and we as a province – must decide. If we carry on the path we’re on now, we will have no choice. The toll on our healthcare system, and on human health is simply too great. (7/9)

In spite of what we’ve seen over the last few days, I am hopeful that we will make a different choice. That we will remain vigilant as ever, we will act safely and responsibly, and London will remain an example to other communities when it comes to our COVID-19 response. (8/9)

Let’s get back to what we’ve been doing over the last several months. If we don’t, the sacrifices we’re being asked to make today are nothing compared to those we’ll be forced to make in the not too distant future. (9/9)
