Also on R4 Today @AdamJKucharski says signs of potential for spread to vulnerable groups

@carlheneghan says crisis language needs dialing back, & shifting policy loses public trust. Need to slow our thinking & be analytic about the steps we take.. (1hr35)

.. Infection rates could be high, but need to know if symptomatic or not. Lockdown would be a mistake, delaying into winter, when consequences will be more dire

"Govt need to realise this is endemic, & have to set a clear objective, which is missing at the moment" @carlheneghan

Nick R - are you saying we can't get rid of it, stop trying, protect the vulnerable?

Heneghan - this is an incredibly important point, if we don't accept it's endemic, we don't start to really protect the most vulnerable...

Kucharski - doesn't agree we can 'protect the vulnerable and sit back'. Argues for more local information.

H - banning households meeting and curfews are not the right approach, should look to Sweden and Germany, direct some strategy, as opposed to panicking all the time.

Kucharski - sustainability is key, use the data to think in longer term to avoid a repeat of where we were earlier in the year... Preferable to target interactions which doesn't mean businesses need to open and close at short notice, the more info and data we have, the better.
