Anyway. I’d be curious to know how accurate the numbers in this piece are. They’re based on a fair number of suppositions.
I’m not alone in being … shall we say, slightly skeptical about this data.
I’ll go one step further and say that anyone who wants theaters to survive should HOPE those numbers are BS. Cuz if Disney decides theaters aren’t worth keeping around, theaters are going extinct. (They might go extinct anyway; they’ll definitely go extinct without Disney BO.)
And every one of you—every critic, every member of every film community—out there who is like “all studios should just release things on PVOD *for now,* why isn’t CANDYMAN coming to PVOD, waaaahhhh” is hastening the death of theatrical. The genie ain’t going back in the bottle.
