In the book, I argue that the current political and racial context makes it so that Democratic candidates do better when they make racially progressive appeals to Blacks and Latinxs

I argue that political polarization has divided americans by racial attitudes. This makes it so Reagan Democrats who are economically liberal but racially conservative left the Democratic Party after the election of Obama minimizing the effectiveness of deracialized campaigns

At the same time, whites who remained in the democratic party have become more racially liberal and responsive to racial outreach

Blacks and Latinxs have experienced a resurgence in group consciousness after the rise of BLM and Trump's election. This has made this group more responsive to racially progressive candidates

These changes are occurring as demographic changes make the coalition of liberal whites, blacks, Latinxs and Asian Americans a formidable force in American politics which can be energized by racial appeals
