Yesterday, the sheriff came out and offered a new version of the killing of #DijonKizzee in which BOTH deputies fired because they had been looking down the barrel of the gun Kizzee raised. Except the video they provided shows him dropping the gun before the 2nd draws his.

I've slowed it down and put the cursor in the area where you can see the gun fall at about 10 seconds in. At this .25 speed, the gap btwn that and 2nd deputy's drawing of his weapon is easier to see. #DijonKizzee @BenCrumpLaw

For reference, this is where the gun landed. It's the bottom blue arrow. The other two point to clothes dropped as he fell.

Yesterday's press conference came just a couple of hours after the call from several members of the Oversight Commission that Sheriff Villanueva resign. latimes.com/california/sto…

Most recently, he has been roundly criticized for not just lying but also proclaiming reporter Josie Huang from KPCC to be bad at her job because her videos of her own arrest contradict his narration of events. laist.com/2020/09/16/deb…

Yesterday's press conference, which I tried live tweeting here, was a masterclass in how to demonize a community while trying to position yourself as its defender

maps showing assaults and weapons arrests over the last 9mos were bandied about to prove the sheriffs were the keepers of the realm

Kizzee was shown in a muted video pointing at his gun

And they kept repeating this new narrative, that not only had Kizzee picked up the gun, but *both* deputies had seen it fall during the struggle and *both* had stared down its barrel when he pointed it at them

recall that for the last three weeks the gun had first been produced, then it was tangled up in the clothing, then Kizzee made a motion toward it. but he had never touched it.

now both deputies were staring down its barrel. lasd.org/updated-info-a…

except they weren't. you can see the gun fall in two of the videos they provided. in this shot, the black gun has just skittered into frame at the blue arrow. the first deputy is firing, but the second is just moving into position.

for reference, the gun hasn't hit the ground yet here, a quarter of a second earlier, while Kizzee is upright but still falling.

the time stamps for reference

the gun is seen in that position here in this ABC7 video screenshot of the scene from that same day.

It's visible falling in this video as well, around the 8-9 second mark.

We can also *hear* the delay in the second deputy opening fire in this doorbell cam, which captures the first burst and then, after a pause, a second, which is the second deputy finally getting around the car and joining in.

Just a reminder of how @LACoSheriff described that yesterday... glossing over how quickly the shots were fired to suggest the officers acted with lightning non-Hollywood-like speed to counter a threat

They've had three weeks to pull this narrative together and watch their own videos. But instead, @LACoSheriff
was holding an anti-BLM press conference that he invited an anti-Black Proud Boy enthusiast to speak at.

*for reference, the video that I took the screen grabs from was one I ripped off the LASD press conference yesterday.

thank god MyHerpes Itch chimed in with insightful insights
