In all my professional life I have never been a part of such an educational debacle. My school’s administrators are dedicated professionals tasked with implementing an impossible and ever changing scenario. I did not receive my roster until 1:30 on Tuesday afternoon. I then 1)

had to contact 45 families, yes the cap is 32, to introduce myself and give information regarding the next day’s first meeting. My class is fully remote. My regular assignment is teaching the gifted and talented population. This year, my class consists of ICT, NEST, and ELL. 2)

I must point out that I am not a licensed special education teacher. My new students are lovely and deserve the best. I pledge to do right by them, even though the mayor and chancellor have failed them. I have barely slept since being given my assignment as I am trying to 3)

prepare as best as I can. I will do whatever it takes for my students. Besides it being illegal not to fully implement any child’s IEP, it is also a legal requirement that ICT and NEST classes have 2 teachers. I ask you @NYCSchools @DOEChancellor @NYCMayor why are you all 4)

failing my students? I am a dedicated professional and I am so worried for them. I am one person. How will I be able to give these wonderful kids all the support they need. Shame on all of you. I know I will work myself as hard as possible for my kids, to the detriment of my 5)

own mental and physical health, and will still not be able to give them all they rightly and LEGALLY deserve. This is absolutely obscene. I am embarrassed by your incompetence. Don’t worry though, even though you threw us to the wolves, I will advocate for my students. We will 6)

succeed in the face of your failure. Why don’t you drop into my Google Classroom and Zoom lessons next week and tell them, and me, that we don’t matter! Today I read the book, “Our Class is a Family,” to my students. Guess what de Blasio and Carranza? I fight for my family! 7)

I seek justice for my family! I don’t quit on my family! So be prepared. You preach equality for all, but dish out injustice. I demand you do right by my kids! #MyStudentsDeserveBetter #Shame #MyStudentsAreMyFamily @UFT @MOREcaucusUFT 8)
