Remembering Eritrean Prisoners of Conscience
@RemEPOC is a social media campaign that is dedicated to daily remembering at least one Eritrean Prisoner of Conscience and an accompanying daily narrative of the human rights situation of #Eritrea.

#Eritrea today is a country where its best daughters & sons, including its sheiks, priests, pastors, ministers, diplomats, civil servants, army leaders, teachers, conscripts, poets, newspaper editors, singers, merchants, veterans and faith communities are illegally disappeared.

Indeed, except for the very rare gruesome tragic instances, it is impossible to find such a range of distinguished and extraordinary people ever thrown into jail, in tens of thousands, in our world’s contemporary history.

But, as if these grave injustices done to them is not enough, there is now - under Eritrea’s current polarized politics, deep societal divisions, the regimes’ continuing total denial or distortion of facts, & the continuing ‘rule of silence’.

These injustices are confounded by the vagaries of time and the frailty of human memory - a real danger that the fate of Eritrea’s tens of thousands of ‘enforcedly disappeared’ persons and the story of their loved ones’ might altogether be totally erased and forgotten.

@REmEPco through its daily remembrance of the stories of these disappeared Eritreans and the accompanying relevant narrative attempts to open a window into the advancement of our collective higher human conscience.

By doing so,
@RemEPOC aims to

1. help keep alive the memory of Eritrea’s disappeared and their families
2. arouse the best part of a nation’s’ slumbering collective conscience;

3. and finally, heal and reconcile Eritrea’s deep wounds & societal cleavages by appealing to Hammurabi’s Golden Rule, the principle of treating others as you want to be treated.
