Today, we release new data on the consequences of the biggest data breach of all time: Real-Time Bidding. Two years after my complaint about the RTB privacy crisis, @DPCIreland has failed to end it.

This morning, @Politico @markscott82 has the story
politico.eu/article/google…
Here is a list of the companies that Google sends RTB data to in Europe. It is 25 pages long!
(US list is longer, and has companies from many nations)

Here is what you need to know about the RTB privacy crisis

Google’s RTB system allows Irish people to be targeted in “Substance abuse”, “Diabetes”, “Chronic Pain”, and “Sleep Disorders” categories, based profiles from Polish data broker company OnAudience (profiles built from RTB data).
See page 6 of report iccl.ie/human-rights/i…
OnAudience (uses RTB data) profiled 1.4 million voters in Poland by politics and sexual orientation, to influence the 2019 parliamentary election. Whatever side of the political issue you stand on, these data could have been used for the opposite too. iccl.ie/wp-content/upl…
In @irishexaminer, @ciananbrennan reports on the story, quotes a remarkable reaction from @DPCIreland. Unfortunately for all of us, the DPC's "extensive correspondence" and "a meeting" over two years is not enough to end this privacy crisis. irishexaminer.com/news/arid-4005…
IAB "RTB" system allows users to target 1,300 people in Ireland profiled in a “AIDS & HIV” category, based on data broker profiles built with RTB data.
Other categories include “Incest & Abuse Support”, “Brain Tumor”, “Incontinence”, “Depression”. iccl.ie/human-rights/i…
A very big thank you to the excellent @WolfieChristl, who has dug deep in to the murky world of data brokers.

Today's submission builds on his work.
For @IrishTimes, @jackpowerIT covers the story irishtimes.com/business/techn…
@jackpowerIT important correction. The profiles are clearly not anonymous, which is the problem.
Big piece from @riptari of @TechCrunch

I missed this earlier. @broadsheet_ie has the story here

In @independent_ie, @adrianweckler has the story.
(I like that phrase about "notional" anonymity)
