1) “Look What I Just Found”
In HBO’s outstanding “Perry Mason” reboot, beat cop Paul Drake drops by defense attorney Mason’s house late at night for a Come-to-Jesus moment. Days earlier, Drake had given Mason a key piece of physical evidence, a bit of a decedent’s denture.
2) Officer found the denture at a crime scene but chose not to turn over to the corrupt DA. By handing over the denture to Mason, Drake knowingly violated the law regarding the chain of evidence. By accepting it, Mason knew he would not be able to introduce at trial.
3) Officer Drake tells Mason that he could turn the case in favor of his client if Mason would just present the denture at trial. Mason reminds Drake that it would be illegal to do so.
4) “There’s what’s legal, and there’s what right,” Drake says, slipping an envelope containing the denture into a file folder in one of scores of “evidence” boxes now crowding the front room of Mason’s house. Mason reaches into the box and says:
“Well, look what I just found."
