Between 1950 to 1967 - number of schools went from 218 to 338.
Anna CM between 1967 - 69 - 11 new schools were opened.
1969 - 77 - 5 schools opened and 4 closed.
No change in enrolment
So much for DMK tom-tomming that they brought education to TN.

Almost entire growth has been in private unaided schools, ie, money making opportunity for Kazhaga Kanmanis
Private aided schools have closed in large numbers. These were privately managed schools that were subsidized by the Govt. They will disappear or be taken over by unaided management in a decade. Govt schools are being closed down.
