The PM is about to make a statement on Coronavirus in Parliament

Says we 'formed a human shield' around our NHS earl in the pandemic

Says we now have a second wave as in Spain and France

Speaks of CMO and CSA's 'scientific' briefing yesterday, and even re-states the '10s of thousands of cases a day' line

Says increase in recent cases isn't a function of more testing, and that it's spreading to vulnerable groups, with increases in hospitalisations and deaths

COVID alert level raised from 3 to 4 yesterday, and says 'this is the moment we must act'.

Says aim is to reduce R0 to 1 (interesting)

Says 'a stitch in time saves 9', with new restrictions in England are coming in, but not a full lockdown

Ensuring businesses can stay open in a 'COVID secure way'

NEW - work from home where possible

All pubs bars and restaurants are now table service only (except takeaway) and must close by 10pm (but deliveries can continue after 10pm)

Face coverings now mandatory for retail staff, and to be worn in hospitality by customers apart from when eating

Wedding ceremonies and receptions now reduced from 30 to 15 people, but does not apply to funerals

Indoor sports also restricted to 6 people (sorry, I'm not as yet clear what and how this applies)

Tighter penalties - fines for businesses breaking COVID rules.

Penalty for not wearing a mask doubled to £200

MILITARY SUPPORT WHERE REQUIRED TO FREE UP POLICE

Now discussing local restrictions, about those continuing etc.

Says to those shielding - guidance continues to be that you don't need to shield expect in local lockdown areas

'Reserves the right' to introduce more restrictions should r0 not go below 1

RESTRICTIONS TO REMAIN IN PLACE FOR 'PERHAPS' SIX MONTHS

Won't listen to those who urge to let the virus rip, nor to those who push for full lockdown

The House will be able to question Govt's scientific advisors more regularly

'No British Govt would want to stifle freedoms in the way we have found necessary this year'

End of statement.
