Dear Dr. Rajan Sharma,
It is with extreme distress that citizens like me note the very high death rate among doctors attending to patients in the current pandemic situation.
As per media reports and a statement attributed to your association about 382 doctors have lost their lives. I am sure
an equal or even larger number of paramedical staff, nurses and all those who work in hospitals too must have lost their lives. We, the citizens of the country, have read and watched social media videos, where doctors who have been at the forefront of this battle of
epic proportions have been ostracized in their immediate surroundings and in the housing societies. It has made us hang our heads in shame. We are ashamed that instead of treating our saviors in these difficult times, we target them and forget that they are perhaps
the last hope between life and death for many who have got infected.
We, the citizens, have also been distressed by the way the Union Health Minister has said that the Government does not have any data on the number of dead doctors. A government, whose
head, organized for banging of utensils, setting off gongs, lighting earthen lamps, torches and what not has essentially abrogated its responsibility of doing something concrete for the doctors who have sacrificed their lives during this testing time for the country.
But let me assure you, the people of the country are not in sync with current government and would like to step forward to create a corpus or fund that can be distributed to the families and survivors of doctors.
Towards this, I humbly request you to set up such a fund and or share the details of the account number of the association such that we can pour our hearts out and send the fund our humble contributions in appreciation for all that these wonderful souls have done for us.
Towards this, on behalf of the Indjournals Foundation, an independent media not-for-profit company, the media arm of Individuals for Actualization of Democracy (A Facebook group with more than 85,000 members) wishes to make a small contribution to get the ball
rolling. We will transmit our contribution to you as soon as you share the account details.
Let me assure you, on behalf of the Foundation and on behalf our our Facebook Group, Individuals for Actualization of Democracy that although the government may have
abandoned you, like it has abandoned the country and told it to become self-dependent but please remember, we, the people are the government. This government is transitory, it will go one day, as every such government that has failed the nation has been relegated to
the dustbin of history, but we the people will remain. And that we stand by you in this hour of extreme challenge and grief.
In anticipation of your prompt and decisive action in this regard.
We remain,
For ever in the debt of the Medical Fraternity.
For and on behalf of Indjournals Foundation
Media Arm of Individuals for Actualization of Democracy.
