The most upsetting thing isn’t all the examples that our Executive Branch is run by a gang of grifting authoritarian wannabes. It’s all the members of the GOP who won’t say a single word about any of it.

I’m currently “represented” by a retired brigadier general and he has absolutely given up on even pretending that he has a role to play in preserving the norms and institutions of our country.

One of my senators has lots of fine words about democracy, republicanism, and the American Founding, and he occasionally tut-tuts about Trump’s terrible behavior. But he won’t take any action to actually preserve our democracy, despite not even needing to campaign for reelection.

Supposed patriots like @RepDonBacon and @SenSasse have given up on our country, and have embraced their 20–something followers’ mentality of winning at all costs to own the libs and rake in more money. It’s not even clear what they actually think they’ll accomplish in Trump’s DC.

One thing is clear: when fascism fully and completely arrives in America, these people will say and do nothing because they’re on the side with its jackbooted foot on our necks.

If there was ever any doubt about how my family ended up in concentration camps, there shouldn’t be.
