HND and 2 2 Graduates Seeking Scholarship Abroad.
If you know any graduate from Polytechnic or anyone with a 2 2, kindly send this tweet to them while you get a very chilled bottled water and unwind this thread🧵:
Basically, there are many ways to get a scholarship:
1. Top Up Degree in Nigeria or Abroad: This program is useful for people in the following category:
a. HND holders with lower credit or pass (all concerned universities accepting lower grades).
b. Graduates (BSc/HND) who want to change to another related or different course.
c. Graduates of polytechnics are not trained to be teachers. They can use this program to change to an education line.
d. University graduates (BSc) with a third (3rd) class or pass can consider the course to chase a better grade.
In Nigeria, the schools offering this program are:
- Kwara State University, Ilorin (State)
- Bells University Abeokuta (Private)
-Alhikmah University Ilorin
-Southwestern University Nigeria (Private)

2. Do WES Evaluation: WES is one of the most widely used education services that help to convert your HND or Bsc Transcripts to the USA standard.
Here are points to note:
-Do a course-by-course evaluation instead of document-by-document evaluation:
This way, only important courses in your transcript will be calculated while others are neglected because you won't need them for your postgraduate studies. This may boost your CGPA. Most times, irrelevant courses always spoil CGPA🤣.
This means that even if your CGPA is low, you can have more than 3.0/4 when converted to the USA system. This is the minimum required for most average schools.
-You will need to send your transcript from your school to WES. Hence, you have to pay twice;
To your school and to WES (about 205 USD). You can now tell WES to send it to your proposed school after evaluation. Of course, you must have informed your proposed school that you are doing WES evaluation.
@Okpala_IU did a very nice explanation of this WES issue here: Please read.
-Even if you have a strong 2 1, you can do WES to move to First Class. So, nobody is exempted.
3. Do a Post Graduate Diploma in your country or outside the country (not usually funded), get a good grade and use it to apply for funded masters or PhD abroad.
4. If you don't have money for WES and you think you have met the minimum requirement in the school, then do the following:
- Search for schools in your field using this:
- Send emails to professors using these threads:
- Make sure your test scores and Statement of Purpose are well written. See this:
