Originally from Wheeling, WV, I worked my way north to the Alaskan Riviera where I landed a regular gig with the Minnifield Communications Network in Cicely.

Buenos dias, Cicely -

So I owe everyone an explanation and an apology. Several months ago the toxicity of everything going down, including on this little blue-bird site, started jamming up my chakras in a way I'd not felt in a long time. #northernexposure (thread).

As you may remember, the last time I felt that way, I jumped on the Harley & let her take me as far away as she would go, got naked, crawled into a cave & blissed out on enough peyote to stun a small bull.

While I don't have a clear recollection of how well that worked last time, let's just say that it failed pretty dismally THIS time. As it turns out, you can't run away from your problems, and you can't run away from the world's problems either.

And my existential dread regarding our country, our planet and our humanity amidst current affairs was compounded by my concern of how to deliver a daily dose of banter to you, my fellow Cicelians, if I'm feeling terrible about the goings on that are going on.

You see, as it turns out, REM lied to me. I don't feel fine.

And I was of a notion that our little paradisiacal slice of the Alaskan Riviera should be a bummer-exempt zone, and that I needed to be an ever constant chipper voice letting everyone know everything was going to be 'just fine.' But that got harder and harder to think and do.

So that's the big question. Can 'Chris in the Morning' still be 'Chris in the Morning' in the current climate, by which I mean - in a world on fire both figuratively and literally? That's what I've been asking myself repeatedly over these past several months...

Well, right or wrong, I've come to the conclusion that it depends on how we define 'Chris Stevens.' Am I like that French soldier I found frozen in a block of ice when I went fishing several years ago - frozen in a time and place?

Or does 'Chris Stevens' have the agency to grow and move with the current events, in the context of still being 'Chris in the Morning'? I guess, in the end, you guys will determine that by your choice of whether or not you want to keep listening...

But I missed you, Cicely. And I missed spinning tunes and waxing poetry. You are my salve, my balm. Yeah - stuff out there is bad. And I'm feeling bad about it. And if you're feeling bad, I want to hear about it.

So this one is for the days ahead. I think they're going to be dark but I'd like to talk about them with you - if you're interested in keeping it tuned to 57AM on the dial. The lines are open...
