rheumatoid arthritis(the inflammation of the joints, usually caused by an autoimmune disease), dermatitis (the inflammation of the skin, here the skin becomes itchy and might develop blisters), eye inflammation, inflammatory bowel disease.

It is also used in the treatment of asthma, hypercalcemia( a situation in which there is a high amount of calcium in the blood) and certain allergies. Prednisolone can also be used for other purposes not listed here.

Prednisolone mainly works by suppressing the immune system, it achieves this by reducing the volume and activity of the immune system.

With short term usage the side effects of Prednisolone include:

-Increased appetite as a result you might gain weight.
-Increased blood pressure
-Headache
-Dizziness
-Stomach discomfort, there might be instances of bloating
-Muscle weakness

With long term usage and the use of higher dose, side effects such as the following may result

-Osteoporosis (is the abnormal lose of bony tissue resulting in fragile and porous bones. This is majorly attributed to lack of calcium in the body.)

-Increased acne
-increased facial hair
-Menstrual problems
-Loss of interest in sex or impotence may result.

This is not a complete list of the side effects of the drug.

People with the following conditions should use Prednisolone with extreme caution as it can worsen it.

-Diabetes
This is because Prednisolone increases blood sugar level.
-Glaucoma
-Heart failure
-High blood
-Epilepsy
-Osteoporosis
-Underlying liver problems

Prednisolone is CONTRAINDICATED and should not be used by people with
-Untreated tuberculosis
-Fungus infection
-people that are recently vaccinated with “live vaccines”
-Already severely compromised immune system

Prednisolone should not be used during pregnancy, especially in early pregnancy as it may cause harm to the baby.
