Good Sunday morning, Cicely -
It's a brisk 31 degrees out there this morning so get your java brewing, wrap yourself up in your favorite blanket and set a spell while we watch that big ol' sun rise...#northernexposure (thread)

With these cold nights now descending upon us, the leaves have started their annual fireworks show, and I'm reminded that while we busy ourselves with our lives, our jobs, our little fights and disputes, this blue-green orb we live on is going to just keep turning on its axis...

Now, back in West Virginia, my Uncle Roy Bower used to look up at the stars and planets and the immensity of it all and just get overwhelmed. Maybe this is why he kept ending up in the pokey - the confined space and regimented schedule was more to his liking...

But not me. Knowing we are such inconsequential specks whose existences on the cosmic scale are like sparks rising from a campfire, here and gone, gives me complete comfort. It's not the brevity that attracts me but the notion that we aren't really in control of much...

This doesn't give us a pass on taking care of each other & mother earth. To the contrary, with the brief time we have, the most important thing we can do is be caring. But let's face it, in the end, this ol' world is going on without us until she does a death spiral into the sun.

Walt Whitman asked, “The clock indicates the moment...but what does eternity indicate?” I think Jung answered it best: "One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious." Actually that might have been Vincent Price who said that.

At any rate, let's spend the day reveling in the fact that we're on a spherical space ship whose destiny is to become the stuff of nebulas and space dust. So, this moment? This too shall pass. Be good, Cicely.
