How should one model one's life?
How about modeling you life on the life of a tree?
A tree spreads its branches far and wide. Takes water and sunlight from nature. Even before it emerges from the soil to the surface, it has started to
spread its roots deep into the surface. Its roots work to extract water from the soil and provide anchor to the stem that slowly rises out of the surface.
The roots cooperate and collaborate with other nearby roots to share their resources when the others are in
trouble. They form a network that is cooperative.
The stem rises and sprouts leaves. The roots send water and nutrients to these leaves and they use the sunshine to produce food for the entire tree. The tree rises and spreads to capture as much sunshine as possible. It competes
with adjoining trees and tries to capture as much sunlight as possible to make as much food as possible. It sends the food to all the branches, does not discriminate against anyone. It becomes home to many animals, especially the birds. It bears flowers and
welcome bees. It gives sweet nectar to the bees which in turn carry its seed to other nearby trees.
The seeds then cross pollinate other flowers and the flowers turn to fruits. When the tree is full of fruits, it bends downwards allowing many animals to
eat the fruits. These animals eat the whole fruit and then take the seed inside the fruit, which is the indigestible part to other places on the field. The tree needs the animals to spread its own kind as much as the animals need the fruits.
The animals shed the seed when they discharge their fecal matter. The seed gets a chance to grow or lie dormant till the conditions are right for it to grow. Seasons change, rains bring the seed to life.
The journey starts again.
Some trees live for thousands of years, as deeply embedded in the crust of the earth as much as above it. They provide shade and shelter to everyone without any discrimination. Same with their fruits, they have no use for their own fruit. Have you ever seen a tree eat its
own fruit?
Be like a tree. Deeply anchored, humble when bearing fruit, completely non discriminatory, good to all especially the neighbors, helpful and rooted to the ground.
