BREAKING NEWS! Tonight at 8.30pm ET on IG, I'll be interviewing Australian historian Dr Sarah Irving Stonebraker, whose surprising story I told in Confronting Christianity.
We met when we were both PhD students at Cambridge, when she was still an atheist.

We'll be talking about the Christian foundations of human rights & our lack of moral foundation if we remove God from the equation. This was the driving force for Sarah's conversion & overlaps with her academic research.
Follow me on IG at @rebecc_mclaugh to listen in!
Fun fact: when Sarah's was considering Christianity, her now husband prayed for her for several hours a day for 3 months. Regrettably, (as he freely confesses) he was mostly motivated by the recognition that she was out of his league & he'd need an act of God. But still.
He clearly took to heart the parable of the persistent widow.
"Christianity was also, to my surprise, radical – far more radical than the leftist ideologies with which I had previously been enamored. The love of God was unlike anything which I expected, or of which I could make sense."
"In becoming fully human in Jesus, God behaved decidedly unlike a god. Why deign to walk through death’s dark valley, or hold the weeping limbs of lepers, if you are God? Why submit to humiliation and death on a cross, in order to save those who hate you?"
"God suffered punishment in our place because of a radical love. This sacrificial love is utterly opposed to the individualism, consumerism, exploitation, and objectification, of our culture."
Some post-conversion thoughts from Dr Sarah Irving Stonebraker, with whom I'll be chatting over on IG Live in an hour! Join us at @rebecc_mclaugh at 8:30pm ET.
Here's a link to the video of my interview with Sarah just now! She's amazing.
