This may seem counterintuitive, but when ultra-Orthodox community leaders are at the center of various health crises like Measles, Herpes from Metzitza B'Peh, Lead poisoning, Kaparos, and the uptick in COVID, instead of becoming a pariah they exploit the crisis to gain power.

You demand government officials "engage" with you more than they already have. You insist on them bringing on more community liaisons, more Yiddish speakers, and get the commissioners of various agencies on speed-dial. These connections become useful long into the future.

It gives them the ability to "take care of things quietly" when scandals emerge later on or when investigations are launched for major violations. And their liaisons help derail enforcement or punitive measures.

The same groups that have failed the community for decades are only solidifying their controls with these farces. The @UnitedJewish @AgudahNews @bpjcc etc.

This is not to say that city & state officials shouldn't engage with community leaders, but it should be on their own terms and it should not exceed what's being done to other communities.
And if community leaders are not 100% cooperative, DUMP THEM, and seek different ones.
