Yes, there were no questions on abortion or Roe v Wade last night.
HOWEVER, we did get a look into what Trump's strategy might be for addressing Amy Coney Barrett's stance on Roe v Wade.
Here's exactly what Biden & Trump said:
Biden: The president is opposed to Roe v Wade. This election it's on the ballot.
Trump: You don't know it's on the ballot. There’s nothing happening here. And you don’t know [Amy Coney Barrett's] view on Roe v Wade
n.b.
Abortion is actually literally on the ballot in two states: Colorado and Louisiana via ballot measures.
CO - A 22-week abortion ban
LA - A Constitutional amendment that would clarify the state's laws do not support abortion
but I digress...
Trump saying that we don't know Barrett's stance on Roe v Wade is interesting and a little confusing.
He's previously said he'd only appoint "pro-life" judges to the Supreme Court and in 2016 said that the overturning of Roe "will happen, automatically."
Now, Trump says he didn't ask ACB her thoughts on Roe and if she's overturn it.
"I didn't think it was for me to discuss that with her... But if you look at her past actions and rulings, I think she may be in the category you mentioned, I don't know."
- Trump on Fox Sunday
For Trump to say he doesn't know if ACB supports overturning Roe is a surprising shift from his previous position of only appointing judges that don't support abortion rights and are in favor of reversing Roe v Wade.
Hopefully we'll hear more at the next debate in two weeks.
