QUESTION: Who are the "Proud Boys"? We asked Scott Stewart @stick631. Follow this thread for the answer.

ANSWER: First, they are a group with an organized national and regional structure. Second, they are not classified as white supremacists as many press reports claim. While some Proud Boy members have links to white supremacists,

the Proud Boys group has members of different ethnicities and its current leader, Enrique Tarrio, is a Cuban. The group is self-avowedly “western chauvinist” meaning that they believe western civilization is superior to others.

As such, they are more accurately classified as nationalists who are anti-immigration and Islamophobic.
Since their inception in 2016, the Proud Boys have been strongly pro-Trump, and often wear red “Make American Great Again” hats.

Violence is part of their group ethos and is featured in their initiation rites, in which new members are beaten by existing members, like many street gangs. The group seeks controversy, and often attempts to provoke confrontation with their enemies, such as the Antifa movement.

Several Proud Boys members have faced criminal charges related to street brawls."
