🚨NEW🚨 1,600+ frmr DOJ lawyers warn of possible elex interference from AG Barr, urge current DOJ personnel, including John Durham, to
1⃣report such misconduct
2⃣refuse participation

Rather than respecting DOJ policy and norms and staying away from anything political leading up to an election, Barr is trying to turn DOJ into an arm of Trump’s campaign. politico.com/news/2020/09/2…

The weaponization of DOJ for Trump’s political aims has come up prominently in the case of the Durham investigation. The DOJ alumni write: “There is clearly no justification for taking public action on it in such close proximity to the November election.” And AG Barr should know.

DOJ has an unwritten policy, the “60-day rule,” which presumes that DOJ personnel should not make public steps or comments on politically sensitive investigations immediately before an election. Barr has endorsed this policy — during his confirmation hearing for AG.

Barr said on record the 60-day rule exists because “the incumbent party has their hands on … the levers of the law enforcement apparatus of the country, and you do not want it used against the opposing political party.”

💬 He should be held to his word. congress.gov/116/chrg/CHRG-…

Were Barr to rescind his endorsement of the 60-day rule with his actions, including through the Durham investigation, current DOJ employees should refuse, report, and resign rather than participate. justsecurity.org/71711/politica…

DOJ personnel have resources to blow the whistle about politically motivated prosecutions or abuse of DOJ power to influence the election.

As the DOJ alumni write, free and fair elections are “our most fundamental democratic value” as a country.

The public should demand them, the media should shed light on them—and the countless public officials working to safeguard them should be supported every step of the way.
