Following reports that the UP Govt has illegally carried out the phone-tapping of India Today reporter @TanushreePande and the relatives of the Hathras rape victim, IFF has filed a RTI request with the UP Govt.

In our RTI request, we asked the UP Govt to provide:
1. information with regard to whether the reported phone-tapping was ordered by the UP Govt and a copy of the order or direction authorising the phone-tapping.

2. information with regard to the duration of the phone-tapping including the date it started and the date till which it is authorised to continue.
3. an exhaustive list of officials who are authorised to access the information obtained through the phone-tapping.

4. information with regard to whether the phone-tapping order or direction was passed in consonance with Section 5(2) of the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885.

5. information with regard to whether the procedure laid down in Section 69 of the IT Act, 2000 and IT (Procedure and Safeguards for Interception, Monitoring and Decryption of Information) Rules, 2009 was followed while issuing the phone-tapping order or direction.
