The Islamic State members must face the same treatment regardless of their gender
The media, in particular, has failed to recognize the crimes committed by ISIS female members, and on many occasions, they reported that these women are “ ISIS brides” without highlighting 1/8
their role as a fundamental part of the terrorist organization who committed war crimes, crimes against humanity and the genocide.
Many of the genocide survivors reported that they have been tortured and forced to work as a servant by ISIS female members while their 2/8
husbands were participating in the battles. On the other hand, many of them stated that these women were helping ISIS male fighters to enslave, rape Ezidi girls and women and abusing their children while they were in captivity. Furthermore, they were humiliating and cursing 3/8
Ezidi women because they were jealous and thought that these women are more attractive to men.
In some of my conversations with Ezidi genocide survivors, they emphasized that ISIS wives treated them worse than their husbands, and in the absence of the men, the situation 4/8
of the Ezidi women was much harder. The active role played by ISIS women members must be addressed in the media regarding the heinous crimes that they committed. It is a shame that documentaries and reports on ISIS female members lead to sympathy and solidarity with those 5/8
perpetrators,because they were satisfied with the ISIS fighters and fully aware of the practices and systematic crimes inside their Caliphate. In addition to that, they're joining the Islamic State based on their belief in the ideologies and values adopted by ISIS leadership. 6/8
Recruiting the foreigner females were an important part of ISIS strategic plan in term of attracting more fighters and strengthen their economic situation; their role in spreading propaganda and promoting the caliphate ideology was significant. When the media outlets and 7/8
platforms describe ISIS female members in this way, they didn’t respect the feeling of ISIS victims and survivors and they strive to hide the facts that related to the most heinous crimes that perpetrated by terrorist figures. 8/8
