|| How we met at work||

Story about how Lan Xichen, Gusu's Chief of Police and Jiang Wanyin the Boss of a infamous mafia group met.

Prequel to How was your day at work.

Lan Xichen stared at the bar in front of him before looking around, he doesn't usually come to these kind of place but for his work he needs too.

'Lotus Pier'

The name of the bar was lit in a purple neon lights, shoving his hands on his pocket he went inside.

As usual the bar is lively, the crowd is hyped. People that was dancing on the floor, the music is loud that it made Lan Xichen cringe lightly.

But he was here for work! His eyes shifted around looking for his target, he had been doing this stake out for a few days now

Still gathering evidence he could only observe the man as they sat on the private lounge. Lan Xichen went to the bar and sat down on one of the stool, fidgeting through his phone just so he won't seem to look too obvious. He was doing quite well on the side until he heard a voice

"Anything I can get for you sir?"

Lan Xichen looked up to see the bartender, but he got caught in surprise to see how good looking they are. The bartender was leaning against the counter, pale blue eyes and a well defined jaw illuminated by the lights on thr bar.

His lashes are kind of long too, he noted.

"I'm not a free drink to stare at sir" they responded with a light smirk and Lan XiChen immediately shook his head.

"Uh no sorry I was just..." he glanced at his phone and the bartender made a small 'ahh' noise.

"Did you got ditched by your date or something?" he asked.

Lan Xichen blinked but hey thats a good backup story! He nodded his head at that "Yes, they decided to end things through the phone apparently" he murmured looking down.

'that's some nice sob story chief'

Lan Xichen almost forgot about the small earpiece he and Lan Jingyi is actually listening to the conversation.

"Oh sorry to hear that... You are new here? I haven't seen your face"

"Yes I am.. I usually do not go to these kind of places since I do not drink but after that...

I wanted to try, probably going less the pain" he chuckled bitterly and the bartender nodded.

"If you want I'll prepare a special drink for you? You looked like someone who cant take too much flavor I'll make it mild"

"Sure thank you" Lan Xichen nodded and saw the bartender

Move around behind the counter. His eyes shifted at his target and saw that he was with someone already. He sent the message to jingyi before shoving his phone in his pockets.

The bartender placed the drink in front of him and Lan XiChen thanked him before taking a sip."

"taste good"

"Glad to know" the bartender started wiping the counter "It will be fine, you will probably find someone better, you seemed kind and very handsome too.." he trailed off and lingered his gaze towards him.

"Thanks"

"I'm Yu Wanyin by the way" he introduced himself.

'Is the bartender flirting at you Chief?!' Jingyi's voice once again interrupted.

"Nice to meet you Wanyin I'm Lan Huan" he gave him the usual alias he gives during his assignments.

"Nice to meet you too Lan Huan.. I'll just tend to the other customers then"

Wanyin moved to the man sitting four stools away from him and Lan XiChen stared at the bartender for a moment before resuming his task, taking casual sip from his drink the rest of the night is spent into observing his target and occasional chat with Wanyin.

A week passed and Lan XiChen found himself on the same bar. This would be the last day of his stakeout, after conforming the transaction that's going to happen in this bar a few officers is already stationed a few blocks from here to arrest their man.

Once again he found himself on the same stool and same drink he ordered last time and Yu Wanyin attending to his order.

"You returned..." he said while cleaning a glass.

"Ah yes.. I just need a gew shots" Lan Xichen raised his glass and their conversation started from there.

Of course he didn't forget his main objective here and while Jingyi had been saying a lot of side comments from his earpiece listening to his conversation with Wanyin.

When the target move Lan Xichen placed his glass down "I need to go.."

"That early?"

"I have work tomorrow"

Wanyin made a small huff and nodded but before Lan Xichen could slide away from the counter Wanyin reached out to him tugging his sleeve. "Are you gonna be back again here?" he asked.

".. I will try" Lan Xichen smiled and Wanyin also gave him a small smirk and nodded.

Lan Xichen left the bar and Wanyin stared at him, his friendly face earlier dropped into a scowl and he tossed the cloth on his hand and went through the bottle of drinks and poured one on his glass before emptying it.

"Boss.. That was.."

"A cop, I know"

Wanyin whose real name is Jiang Cheng pulled out his phone and huffed. "Hn.. It was so obvious the moment I saw him" he drummed his fingers on the counter. "But we could probably use this on our advantage" he said before leaving the counter his eyes glued to his phone

Where the information of Lan Xichen is displayed on his screen. He could feel the excitement rushing through him, Jiang Cheng likes baiting cops after all but he never went to far.. Just playing around getting information and then disappear from them or dumping them.

It gives him a little excitement specially they didn't know they are already under the charm of one of the most infamous leader of the Jiang group.

Jiang Cheng knew Lan Xichen would come back, he was certain of it and all he had to do is wait for him.
