The ruling class may decide that a traditional authoritarian coup, with military control and suspension of the rule of law, may be necessary in order to consolidate and sustain what is already, de facto, something close to a global fascist takeover.

In 1987 it was revealed, briefly, that the US has a secret protocol in place for the suspension of the Constitution.

Already, corona hysteria has allowed to ruling class to seize power and suspend democracy de facto in most of the Anglophone world and Europe, where government by decree has supplanted the legislative process and basic rights have been revoked in practice.

In New Zealand, police officers were dispatched to threaten citizens who had posted remarks deemed subversive on social media.

Exceptionally harsh lockdowns in India and South Africa were enforced via the overnight consolidation of violent police states that targeted the poor.

In the US, much of the Bill of Rights has been abrogated by coronavirus diktats. Various states and municipalities have suspended, de facto, First Amendment rights of free speech, assembly, and religion ...

These attacks on popular sovereignty and the rule of laware executed in lockstep by the satraps of the global ruling class. Evidence is emerging that state COVID policies are directly coordinated and steered by ruling class elites.

This de facto fascist crackdown is still disguised as something temporary and is typically clothed in pseudo-legal justifications.

Despite all this, vestiges of democracy and the rule of law remain an impediment to the ruling class program. This is notwithstanding their continual efforts and frequently successful attempts to pervert and outflank popular will.

For instance, the world’s richest and perhaps most powerful man, Jeff Bezos, was thwarted in his effort to build palatial Amazon headquarters in Queens after community activists forced the New York City Council to demand concessions and accountability.

Laws and regulations governing health, safety, monopolization, labor, etc., not to mention constitutional rights – in short, the rule of law – require the rulers to engage in lengthy and expensive campaigns to accomplish their goals. They would prefer to remove such obstacles.

Bill Gates has made plain the contempt in which the ruling class holds democracy.

Expect, then, a rapidly escalating attack on the fundamental institutions of Western liberal democracy. They already reversed the Communist revolutions. Now, I fear, the goal is to reverse the French Revolution.
