Roam isn't a hierarchical note-taking app. The smallest bit of knowledge in Roam is the block, which makes it perfect to link.

Links in Roam have another use: filtering!

As your database grows, it's useful to filter blocks in or out based on the links in them. This helps to keep an overview of your notes.

Lesson 4 shows how to use filters, including global filters:

The sidebar makes Roam the perfect writing companion.

When you have more information on your screen, you remove friction by not having to look up your notes.

Block references are one of Roam's most powerful features.

Instead of having to copy your notes over and over, you can simply pick one block as source and reuse it. Every time you change the source, all references update.
