Thread: How to run a build up, featuring Marcelo Brozovic.

I'll show you how to beat a press and build up play using pass selection, weight of pass, timing and movement.

All basics.

Let's start.

Here he intentionally opens up a passing lane to allow De Vrij access the pitch after noticing he wants to carry the ball. Doesn't need to get the ball to feet here and he knows. Simple but effective

Skriniar is by his right in this clip.

A pass to Skriniar seems harmless but it'd allow Atalanta to choke the space further and probably results in a hasty clearance upfield.

This is where pass selection comes in. Decisions decisions.

Here he tries to open the passing lane again, but De Vrij passes it sideways.

Pay attention in the next clip to see how he helps out here. It's genius.

Notice the initial movement to lose his marker, but the genius here is in the weight of the pass.

See the speed and placement, Skriniar doesn't even need to take a first touch if he's being closed down. Ball is perfectly placed for him to play an accurate first time pass.

Many times midfielders fuck this up by playing a difficult pass to the CB that compromises the CB's space and time, and invites more pressure.

Subtle things like this makes life easier for your team-mates. Atalanta didn't have an answer to that.

Here again Skriniar is to his right. But a pass to Skriniar puts the team at risk of losing possession.

See Zapata expects the pass, ready to pounce.

Kills them with his pass selection. Ball ultimately reaches Skriniar is more space and time, plays a bozo ball though.

Defense is under pressure here because of a poor kick by the GK. See his pass selection, superb.

Simple switch of play. Use of his left foot is pinpoint again. Plays at multiple angles.

Clean passing like this is important for gaining territory.

Here Vidal puts him under pressure with his pass.

Handles it perfectly. First touch sets him up in space to make a decision, then again, the pass selection.

His understanding of space and time is immense.

Body feint and quick turn here. No player is directly behind him so it's calm.

If you've noticed another thing in this thread it should be Inter's use of Lukaku. He's so so important.

End of thread.
