MORNING HEARING: Morries Hall, the man in the car with George Floyd on May 25, is pleading the 5th to avoid self-incrimination. Drugs were found in the car. His attorney said if he is forced to testify it could lead to a 3rd-degree murder charge.

#DEREKCHAUVINTRIAL: Witness #23, MPD Sergeant Ker Yang. He is the department's Crisis Intervention Training Coordinator. In 2016, Chauvin did a 40-hour crisis intervention course. “That course covers individuals in crisis, symptoms and de-escalation strategies,” Yang said.

#DEREKCHAUVINTRIAL : MPD Crisis Intervention involves the Critical Decision Model, “It could be almost like memory.” said Sergeant Yang.

#DEREKCHAUVINTRIAL: Witness #24, MPD Lieutenant Johnny Mercil. He's on medical leave but has been with MPD for 25 years. He was a use of force instructor and trained officers on Brazillian jiu-jitsu.

#DEREKCHAUVINTRIAL: Evidence showing Chauvin attended a use of force training in 2018.

#DEREKCHAUVINTRIAL : Lt. Mercil says he trains officers to use the least amount of force. “The minimal amount of force that you need to accomplish the objective of arresting or detaining somebody is what you should use.”

Mercil: No sir

Prosecution: Is this an MPD authorized restraint technique?

Mercil: Knee on the neck would be something that does happen in use of force that isn't unauthorized.

#DEREKCHAUVINTRIAL: Witness #25, MPD officer Nicole Mackenzie. She is the medical support coordinator for MPD, the administrator of the Narcan Program, and does CPR training.

#DEREKCHAUVINTRIAL: Prosecution evidence shows Chauvin was CPR trained.

Prosecution: Do you train officers that if a person can talk that means that they can breathe?

Mackenzie: No sir

“Just because they're are speaking doesn't mean they are breathing adequately.”

#DEREKCHAUVINTRIAL: Witness #26, Sergeant Jody Stiger. He works for the Los Angeles Police Department for 28 years. He's been on a use of force committee.

Sgt. Stiger from LAPD, said Floyd was resisting arrest when officers tried to put him in the squad car. But when Floyd was on the ground and slowed down his resistance, “They (officers) should have slowed down or stopped their force as well.“
