👋 If you've been following the news, you've seen that @MLB has officially announced that the #ASG will be played at Coors Field! ⚾️

We're excited! But we're also dismayed to see Republicans and some media spread disinformation about our election laws. So let's talk facts. 🧵

Republicans are running with this fantasy that the anti-voting, anti-elections law they just signed in Georgia (Senate Bill 202) is somehow comparable to how we do it here in Colorado.

As Colorado reporters have pointed out, this is blatantly false.

🚨 Colorado has universal vote by mail. 🚨

That means *every* active registered voter in the state of Colorado receives a ballot in the mail 22 days before election day -- as pointed out in this must-read @ColoradoSun article.

As @NewslineCO points out: while Colorado automatically sends active registered voters their ballots, in Georgia under the new law, individual voters have to *request* a mail ballot.

Republicans *cough* Brian Kemp *cough* have been making hay about us having 15 in-person voting days vs. Georgia's 17 in-person voting days.

But as @CPRNews points out, 🚨 Colorado voters rarely vote in-person 🚨.

Here's a big one. As @denverpost reports, in Georgia, the deadline to register to vote is *28 days* before election day.

Here in Colorado? We have same-day voter registration! 🎉

You have questions about how we have "Voter ID" requirements?

As @CPRNews fact checks, there's no comparison to our law and the restrictive Voter ID law in Georgia. We make it easy and convenient. Georgia's new law does not.

👉 cpr.org/2021/04/06/col…

Here's another big difference between our laws and Georgia's new voting laws.

As @ColoradoSun writes, GA's new law "reduces the number of ballot dropboxes to one per 100,000 voters in a county, or one per early voting site, whichever is fewer."

👉 coloradosun.com/2021/04/06/vot…

Here in Colorado with our universal vote by mail system?

We offer one ballot dropoff box per every 9,400 active registered voters in Colorado. TLDR? We offer far more convenient ballot dropoff locations for voters than the new Georgia law does.

👉 cpr.org/2021/04/06/col…

In fact, our laws have minimum requirements for ballot dropboxes per county that ultimately make them much easier and more convenient to find for voters!

👉 coloradosun.com/2021/04/06/vot…

Additionally, to ensure Colorado voters have easy access to a polling place, we offer mobile voting centers!

Georgia Republicans banned those in their new law, only allowing them for when the Governor declares an emergency.

Finally (and this is a big one folks): Republicans seem to think we restrict water and food to voters waiting in line, just like how Republicans made law in Georgia.

*No.* For one, as we established, waiting in line to vote isn't really a thing here.

👉 cpr.org/2021/04/06/col…

Remember: Republicans' new law in Georgia has strict restrictions on delivering food and water to voters waiting in line.

A Georgian can't bring their friend waiting in line to vote food or water while they wait. That's now a misdemeanor.

👉 coloradonewsline.com/2021/04/06/no-…

In Colorado? The only restriction we have is that individuals can't wear campaign apparel or electioneer within 100 feet of a polling place.

So, no. Unlike Georgia Republicans, we don't criminalize giving voters waiting in line water or food.

👉 coloradonewsline.com/2021/04/06/no-…

So, unlike Georgia Republicans' obvious attempt to suppress voter turnout, Colorado has a voting model that has been praised by Dems and Republicans for how convenient it is for voters to cast their ballots.

As a result? We keep breaking turnout records! 5280.com/2020/11/colora…

Thank you to the intrepid reporting by Colorado journalists for fact-checking the blatant disinformation being pushed and uplifted by dishonest right-wing operatives.

May more reporters follow your example! /thread
